Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra to Hold Auditions

Auditions for the 2009-2010 Knoxville Jazz Youth Orchestra will be held on Wednesday, September 23 at 7pm at the University of Tennessee School of Music. Saxophonist Alan Wyatt will conduct the band this year, with support from various members of the KJO.

Auditions are open to students from grades 9 – 12. The group will rehearse each Wednesday evening at 7pm at the UT School of Music and will perform several concerts throughout the school year.

The KYJO is looking for people who play the following instruments:

  • Baritone saxophone
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Drum set
  • Vocals

Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra holds Summer Conservatory

Congratulations to the Music Arts student members of the ORYSO for a successful spring concert!

ORYSO has more in the works for later on this summer they have planned an Oak Ridge Summer Conservatory.

Strings and piano students: please consider attending the Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra – Oak Ridge Summer Conservatory – August 3rd – 10th, 2009. The Application Deadline: July 6th, 2009.

They are offering a one-week long summer camp for strings and piano students. For more information and an application go to oryso.org.

Also please note that auditions for the 2009-2010 ORYSO season will be held on August 22-24th, with rehearsals starting August 30th. This year they will have an advanced Symphony Orchestra, an intermediate Chamber Orchestra, and a Simply Strings (beginner) ensemble.

Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra

Over 50 young area musicians auditioned in early January for the newly formed ORYSO. Several Music Arts students have joined the new orchestra including: Elizabeth Wilson, and Elijah Fetzer, violin students of Ilia Steinschneider; Willam Mason, cello student of Jeanine Wilkinson; and Catherine Backus, trumpet student of Warren Clark.

The conductor, Rachel Grubb, is currently working towards the prestigious College Scholars degree in Conducting and Violin Performance at the University of Tennessee.
